What Are The Causes Of Seborrheic Dermatitis What Aggravates It

How I treat psoriasis inside my ears

Researchers arent sure of the exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis. They think there may be many causes. Factors that are thought to play a role include:

  • A type of yeast called Malassezia, which is present on everyones skin, but overgrow in some people.
  • An increased level of androgens .
  • An increased level of skin lipids.
  • An inflammatory reaction.
  • Family history .

Other factors that trigger or worsen seborrheic dermatitis include:

  • Stress.
  • History of other skin disorders, including rosacea, psoriasis and acne.

Causes Of Psoriasis In The Ears

Psoriasis is a skin disease caused by a persons immune system attacking their own skin. Excess inflammation and activity by the immune system causes skin cells to replicate out of control. Overactive skin-cell production leads to skin buildup, which often appears as the discolored lesions covered with gray or silvery scales characteristic of psoriasis. This response can occur on skin all over the body, including the ears.

Factors that can make psoriasis worse or lead to a flare-up of ear psoriasis may include:

  • Cold weather
  • Infection

Recognize Triggers Of Flares

The best way to minimize the risk of psoriasis flares, including those that affect your ears, is to guard against the things that cause you to flare.

Common triggers include stress, injury to the skin , illness, and sometimes even the weather. You may not be able to avoid or change all of those things, but you can do your best to modify your behavior to reduce the likelihood of a flare-up.

If stress tends to cause you to flare, for instance, find a healthy way to cope with stress. Try practicing meditation or yoga, or take a time-out and listen to music.

How To Get Rid Of Guttate Psoriasis Naturally

Its easy to think that patches of dry, itchy skin on the scalp are caused by some kind of lack of hygiene. But cleanliness has nothing to do with scalp psoriasis.

Psoriasis is actually a chronic inflammatory disorder caused when the immune system doesnt work quite right. Doctors arent sure why, but some people have an immune system that churns out too many skin cells. Since the body cant get rid of these excess cells fast enough, they pile on top of each other, forming flakey, silvery scales.

Psoriasis can pop up anywhere on the body, but when it shows up on your head, dry skin patches can appear under the hair, on the back of the neck, and behind the ears.

Its easy to confuse psoriasis with dandruff, and sometimes dermatologists arent so sure themselves. When it looks like a blend between psoriasis and dandruff, they call it sebopsoriasis a cute couples name for seborrheic dermatitis, aka dandruff, and psoriasis.

However, some clues that your scalp irritation might be psoriasis include more defined or patterned pink scale-like plaques.

Dandruff looks more like generalized greasy flaking with pink patches. Over-the-counter shampoos can typically knock out dandruff, but scalp psoriasis is a little harder to treat.

What Treatments May Or May Not Be Used In Sensitive Areas

If you develop psoriasis in a sensitive area, you should discuss it with your doctor, who will be able to advise you on suitable treatments.

Emollients are an important part of the daily care of psoriasis on all parts of the body, including sensitive areas. They help to make the skin more comfortable. In addition, there is a range of topical treatments available creams and ointments that your doctor can prescribe.

Topical vitamin D creams and ointments are effective in treating psoriasis and some are less likely to cause irritation. However, others do have the potential to irritate sensitive areas. Some doctors recommend cautious use of vitamin D creams and ointments in such instances.

Topical steroid creams may be recommended for sensitive areas. However, care should be taken with their use as the potential for increased absorption may lead to skin fold side effects such as skin thinning. For this reason low-strength topical steroids are generally favoured for use in sensitive areas. It is also important that topical steroids are not used for long periods of time or without close supervision from your doctor. Treatment should never be stopped abruptly as this may trigger a rebound flare of your psoriasis.

Topical steroids may also be combined with antifungal and antibacterial agents because infections with yeasts and bacteria are more common in warm, moist skin flexures.

Therapies To Treat Psoriasis

To date, the available treatments cannot completely cure psoriasis, and existing therapies only mitigate the symptoms to improve patients quality of life. Treatment options for the management of psoriasis generally include local treatment, phototherapies, and systemic treatments, which are utilized according to the different characteristics of the psoriasis.

Psoriasis is characterized by red, thickened plaques with a silvery scale. The lesions vary in size and degree of inflammation. Psoriasis is categorized as localized or generalized, based on the severity of the disease and its overall impact on the patient’s quality of life and well-being. Patient education about the disease and the treatment options is important. Medical treatment for localized psoriasis begins with a combination of topical corticosteroids and coal tar or calcipotriene. For lesions that are difficult to control with initial therapy, anthralin or tazarotene may be tried. The primary goal of therapy is to maintain control of the lesions. Cure is seldom achieved. If control becomes difficult or if psoriasis is generalized, the patient may benefit from phototherapy, systemic therapy and referral to a physician who specializes in the treatment of psoriasis.

Psoriasis Treatment For The Ears

Home Remedy Natural Treatment for Psoriasis, Eczema, Dermatitis topical treatment

If youve already been diagnosed with psoriasis, you may be using steroid creams or ointments to treat plaques elsewhere on your body. However, the skin in and around your ear is sensitive and thinner than the rest of your body, so you should not automatically use these treatments to treat the itching or pain. The dosages may be too high or concentrated for the skin to tolerate. Ask your doctor if you can use them or if you need creams with a lower dose, or a different medication altogether. If the psoriasis is affecting your ear canal, you might use steroid drops rather than creams, as drops can enter the ear canal more easily. Other therapies like light therapy might also be recommended however this too must be adjusted to compensate for the skins sensitivity.

Keeping your ears clean and the skin well moisturized may help relieve flare-ups and itching when plaques do appear. After washing your ears and the surrounding area with a gentle soap, pat dry gentlydo not rub, as this may irritate your skin. Moisturizers, especially if applied right after bathing, can help keep your skin from drying out. Dont scratch or rub too hard, despite the itching, to avoid breaking the skin. Some people find relief by applying some aloe vera to the plaques. Cool compresses may also help ease the itch.

Improve The Targeting Ability

Modified Ethosomes

When ethosomes are conjugated with ligands, their targeting ability can be effectively improved. For example, HA is the natural ligand of CD44 protein . Hence, HA can be combined with ethosomes to target CD44 protein for psoriasis . Zhang et al. prepared curcumin ethosomes modified with HA for the targeted treatment of psoriasis. Compared with plain ethosomes and propylene glycol solution, applying HA ethosomes as delivery vehicles led to significant enhancements in the cumulative transdermal amount of curcumin and the amount retained in the skin. Two lines of evidence offer possible explanations. On the one hand, HA shows a dense, three-dimensional network structure, improving water absorption and moisture preservation and thus increasing the hydration of the SC and improving the drug permeability. On the other hand, the specific binding of HA to CD44 in the skin may lead to the enhancement of drug retention in the skin. The curcumin HA-ES group had the lowest PASI score, and the expression of CCR6, IL-17A, and IL-17F was also decreased.

    How To Treat Ear Psoriasis

Ear psoriasis is a pain. Ears are very irritating places to get psoriasis: its very hard to reach the spot with the emollient creams youd usually use, and absolutely infuriating if its painful or itchy!

Psoriasis is an auto-immune condition it causes the overproduction of skin cells, resulting in the buildup of scales or flakes. If that happens within the ear canal, it can cause intense irritation, itchiness, and even lead to hearing difficulties. But the good news is that there are a few simple things you can do if you find your ears are bearing the brunt of a psoriasis flare, which can help make things a bit easier for your skin.

First things first: NEVER insert anything into your ear, however tempting! If youre finding the build-up of skin cells in your ear is making it difficult to hear, consult your doctor they can refer you to have any debris extracted.

  • Check your haircare: shampoos, hairspray or conditioners that contain perfume or irritating preservatives can aggravate psoriasis, especially in the ears. Swap them out for natural, non-irritant alternatives.
  • Check your make-up and skincare for similarly irritant ingredients.
  • Check – and avoid! – your triggers: what makes you flare up? Is it stress? Certain things youre eating? Alcohol? Temperature changes?
  • Use emollient ointments outside the ear canal: Balmonds Skin Salvation is a good choice.
  • Recommended products: Balmonds Scalp Oil with tea tree, nettle & calendula, £14.99 for 50ml.
