Different Ways To Apply Neem Oil

Neem Oil for Psoriasis

If you have a sensitive skin, direct application of neem oil can irritate your skin. You can first apply neem oil on your hand. If it irritates your skin, you can try these different ways of applying neem oil:

  • Add a few drops of neem oil to coconut oil. Mix it properly and then apply it on the affected area with the help of a cotton ball.
  • Add some drops of neem oil to your bath tub.
  • You can even dilute neem oil by adding a few drops to your shampoo or lotion.
  • Neem oil can also be added to home-made face-packs or face-masks.

My Experience With Neem

A number of times, people would recommend me using neem to heal my psoriasis. To be honest, I didnt give it a serious try for a longer duration of period. I consumed neem capsules for a month without any remarkable benefits and then I discontinued it. Actually, I am consuming turmeric and flaxseed oil capsules regularly. Hence, I found it difficult to consume so many herbs together.

As far as neem oil is concerned, it was a good experience. Neem oil used to soothe my skin flakes and itching would be less. But for me, psoriasis have always been a problem of my gut and hence, I have always looked for inside-out treatment for psoriasis and I rarely use any natural or pharma based external ointment/cream/oil.

To summarize my experience, neem oil is a good option if you are looking for a natural external treatment. As far as neem tablets/capsules are concerned, these are completely natural and have powerful blood purifying, anti inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Hence, consuming neem capsules for a longer duration is not a bad idea at all.

What Is Ayurvedic Medicine

Ayurveda is a holistic form of medicine based out of India that focuses on the balance between mind, body, and spirit to promote good health by balancing life energies, called doshas. Ayurveda utilizes alternative therapies like massage, oils, including neem oil, and herbs to maintain optimal health.

While more standardized clinical trials are needed to determine the efficacy of treatment with neem oil, preliminary studies suggest that neem oil has several benefits in treating symptoms of eczema.

As a rich antioxidant source of azadirachtin and nimbolide, neem oil plays a role in the destruction of harmful free radicals. Free radicals, also called reactive oxygen species, underlie the development of many inflammatory diseases and conditions. Destroying or stabilizing free radicals can help decrease oxidative stress throughout the body, which plays a role in several inflammatory conditions, including eczema.

Neem oil also helps regulate activity of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, enzymes involved in inflammatory pathways, which can also help decrease inflammation throughout the body.

It has also been hypothesized that nimbidin, one of the antioxidant compounds of neem oil, suppresses the activity of macrophages and neutrophils, which are white blood cells involved in inflammatory reactions. Decreasing inflammation can also help promote wound healing to improve the appearance of skin affected by eczema.
