Here’s what you need to know when stocking your kitchen cupboards and fridge for skin care:
1. Know the essentials. The key to good health, says Dattner, is an appropriate balance of omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids . Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation, while most omega-6 fatty acids tend to promote inflammation.
Another good source of omega-3 fats is flaxseed . In addition, try to limit your intake of pro-inflammatory fried and fatty foods.
How To Find Out Whether Citrus Fruits Trigger Your Psoriasis Or Eczema Flare
One of the cheapest and most reliable ways to find out if citrus fruits are a trigger food for you is to complete an elimination diet, followed by reintroductions. A well-designed elimination diet for psoriasis sufferers cuts out all of the most common allergenic and psoriasis-triggering foods and emphasizes healthy, unprocessed foods that help heal the gut . After the food elimination phase, you begin slowly and systematically reintroducing foods one at a time, while monitoring your body for possible reactions. After you have tested every potential trigger food, you will be able to tell which foods aggravate your condition.
Before attempting to uncover your trigger foods through an elimination diet, it is a good idea to seek professional guidance from your family doctor, a certified dietitian or nutritionist, or a knowledgeable naturopathic doctor. Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin disease that causes a red, scaly rash, most commonly on the elbows, knees, hands, lower back, and scalp. Larger studies are needed, but findings from a study published in September 2018 in the journal JAMA Dermatology suggest that sticking to a Mediterranean diet may slow the progression of psoriasis. This heart-healthy diet is rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, seafood, nuts and legumes, and olive oil and limits red meat, sugary foods, and dairy. You can incorporate a Mediterranean diet into your routine to manage moderate-to-severe psoriasis, he says.

Red Processed Or Fatty Cuts Of Meat
“Saturated fat increases inflammation in the whole body through many pathways, and excessive intake may possibly worsen psoriasis,” Van Ark says.
She notes that any type of high-fat meat will also have high levels of saturated fat, so these should be limited. Especially:
- Red meat likehamburger and steak
- Processed deli meats like salami
To further help your psoriasis, you’ll want to swap those saturated fats for some healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which can help reduce chronic inflammation, Van Ark says. So, instead of steak for dinner, opt for salmon and a salad topped with walnuts and flax seeds.
Eat Less: Fatty Red Meat
This can trigger inflammation and may lead to bigger and more severe psoriasis flares. The saturated fat in red meat can also raise your chances of heart disease, and people with psoriasis are already more likely to have a heart attack or stroke. If youre in the mood for red meat, opt for lean cuts, such as sirloin and top and bottom rounds. And choose ground beef with the lowest percentage of fat.

Strategies To Eliminate Psoriasis

Most often, psoriasis results in patches of thick, red skin covered with silvery scales. These patches, sometimes called plaques, usually itch or feel sore. They most often occur on the elbows, legs, scalp, lower back, face, palms and soles of the feet, but they can occur anywhere on the body.
The disease may also affect the fingernails, toenails, soft tissues of the genitals and inside the mouth. Often the skin around affected joints starts to crack. Some people with psoriasis experience joint inflammation that produces symptoms of arthritis, called psoriatic arthritis.

Food allergies, like stress, could trigger psoriasis in certain individuals. Most people relate allergic reactions to an IgE response. An IgE response is an immediate response to ingestion of a trigger such as peanuts. A persons airway may begin to close, swelling of the face or other body part, and other more emergent symptoms occur in an individual who suffers from an IgE reaction.
Food allergies are commonly related to an IgG response. This is considered a delayed allergy. It may take 2-14 days to experience symptoms such as brain fog, bloating, congestion, arthritis, joint stiffness, acne, and the list goes on.
