Southern Naturals Charcoal Soap Bar

I think this soap bar is sent from heaven as it prevented me from spending a lot of money on fighting psoriasis. It doesnt only give me peace of mind but my skin feels at ease too. I no longer need any medication as this soap satiates my needs to maintain healthy skin.

I love that this coal tar soap for psoriasis can be used as a hand wash, body wash, and face wash. I saw improvements from head to toe. It allows me to experience having a foot spa as it can remove old skin. All skin types can take in all the benefits, even the most sensitive skin.

Another thing I like is that this bar of soap can last up to six to eight weeks because its handmade through the cold process. But you have to make sure its in a dry location after use so it wont melt easily. When I compare it to other commercial soaps, it indeed has a longer life.

I can attest to how its economical but proven to be effective for everyone in the family from infants, children, teenagers to adults. All of us in the family love using it. I have peace of mind that everyone gets cleaned while preventing skin issues like flaking, itchiness, rashes, and acne.

What Kinds Of Products Should I Use When Bathing

You should always look for skin products that are unscented, fragrance-free and dye-free so that you dont further irritate your skin.

Try to avoid waterless, antibacterial cleansers, which often contain ingredients like alcohol and solvents that are very hard on your skin . Remember not to scrub your skin while cleansing and to gently pat your skin dry when youre done. As always, moisturize your skin immediately afterward.

What To Look For

You dont need to plan a trip to the Dead Sea to reap the healing properties of its salts. You can purchase authentic Dead Sea salts locally or online. You could also schedule a therapeutic Dead Sea treatment at a spa that offers this service. There are many products containing Dead Sea salt available for use on skin and hair.

For example, a shampoo containing Dead Sea salts can help manage inflammation, itching, scaling, and flakes associated with psoriasis. A foot scrub containing these salts could be helpful in removing scales and leaving feet feeling smooth and soft. Dead salts can also be found in facial scrubs, bath soaps and body washes, skin lotions and creams, and so much more.

Make sure you choose Dead Sea salts that have been cleaned without chemicals for the most benefit. The best way to ensure this is by reading labels and buying products that are not processed or refined. If you are purchasing bath salts, make sure they have a natural white color and are imported from locations near the Dead Sea .

Tell us your psoriasis story

In 2011, when I was 16, I first developed a rash but didnt think much of it I had googled my symptoms and thought that it could be psoriasis, but as it didnt affect my life much I wasnt too concerned. The rash was a little annoying but went away after holidays or a few sessions on a sunbed. It was until 2014 when it flared up badly and started to impact my life more. My skin was super red, itchy and painful all over my body which was what led me to go back to doctors to finally get a diagnosis.

What do you do when you feel a psoriasis flare up coming on and how do you stay positive?

It’s very hard to not stress when you know that you’re flaring but to really have a good, understanding support system around helps so much. My family, friends and incredibly supportive boyfriend are always there to reassure me that I’ve been through the worst, that I’m strong and I can fight it. It helps knowing that Ive been through bad flare ups before and beat them, so I can do it again! So really, staying calm, just chilling out and knowing that if I stress it gets worse usually makes me chill out.

Are there any skincare habits you would advise people to take up or avoid if they have psoriasis?

Have you noticed a connection with what you eat and your psoriasis?

Have you had any experience with psoriatic arthritis?

Where Oatmeal Comes In

Oatmeal has long been known to soothe irritated skin not when you eat it, but when you apply it to the skin. There are many over-the-counter oatmeal bath mixes, lotions, and soaps. But all you need is plain ground oats and a bathtub to get the helpful effects.

Youll want to use colloidal oatmeal. This is a finely ground oatmeal that dissolves in hot water and wont clog your drain. You can buy it or make it yourself.

To make your own colloidal oatmeal, grind whole oats in a blender or food processor until the texture is a little grittier than regular flour. To see if youve ground it fine enough, mix a tablespoon in a cup of hot water. It should blend and stay suspended, with very little settling on the bottom.

Oatmeal has been scientifically proven to reduce skin swelling and itching. It contains fats like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that are healthy for your skin.

Keeping Your Skin Hydrated Is Important

Ensuring that your skin is hydrated is essential to the treatment of psoriasis. Appropriate hydration reduces redness and calms itchiness while helping the skin to heal. Hydrating solutions work in combination with medication for optimal results. You must use a hydrating solution on your skin every day and preferably after a bath or shower when your skin is still humid. Your pharmacist can recommend a hydrating solution that is right for you.

What Exactly Is The Treatment For Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic disease, which means that it never completely goes away. There are periods of crisis and periods of remission. The goal of treatment is to control symptoms and prolong periods when the disease is not active. Consequently, it is important to follow treatment consistently without stopping when you see signs of improvement. Consistent treatment is the best way to prevent relapses.

Choosing a treatment option depends on several factors, including:

  • Age
  • Areas where the patches appear
  • Type of psoriasis
  • Spread of patches
  • The expectations of the person with the disease

Treatment consists in applying medicated topical solutions for lighter forms of psoriasis. Oral treatment, injections or phototherapy may be necessary for more severe forms of the disease.

There is a vast range of prescription medication to relieve the symptoms of psoriasis. Your pharmacists advice may be of great value when choosing a treatment option designed to deliver enhanced comfort and quality of life. Your pharmacist can also tell you how to use the product, what precautions you need to take, and what side effects may be expected.
