Is Triamcinolone Good For Psoriasis

The Benefits Of Using Triamcinolone Cream To Treat Your Psoriasis

Triamcinolone Cream at Soderstrom Skin Institute

Triamcinolone is generally used to treat psoriasis among other things, though when it comes to using it, there are several ways to apply it. Obviously, one of the ways to apply it is a cream. In addition, you can also use ointments or lotions. All three of these options are used by applying a thin film of the triamcinolone to the affected areas, though be careful that you do not apply too much at any one time and rub it into the skin very gently. Meanwhile, a spray can be applied to the affected area by holding the can three to six inches away and keep your eyes protected in order to reduce the risk of being affected by the vapors from the aerosol. Aerosol is flammable, so be very careful that you are not using it near any kind of open flame. This is the proper method by which to use it if you are applying it to the knees, neck, or elbows. If you have psoriasis on your scalp however, you should use either a lotion or a spray. To use them, make sure to part your hair and apply either the spray or the lotion to the affected areas on your scalp. For all of these, make sure that none of these get into your eyes. After using it, wash your hands thoroughly. If the cream gets into your eyes, immediately go and wash your eyes out. Triamcinolone come in other forms, including nasal sprays, dental pastes, and injections, which your doctor may prescribe if the psoriasis calls for it.

What Other Information Should I Know

Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor may order certain lab tests to check your body’s response to triamcinolone.

Do not let anyone else use your medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.

It is important for you to keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription medicines you are taking, as well as any products such as vitamins, minerals, or other dietary supplements. You should bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to a hospital. It is also important information to carry with you in case of emergencies.

Things To Keep In Mind When Using A Topical Steroid:

  • Apply a small amount of the steroid on the affected areas only.
  • Donât use a topical steroid for longer than three weeks without consulting your health care provider.
  • Refrain from abruptly discontinuing a topical steroid as it can cause your psoriasis to flare.
  • Unless the medication is formulated for the eye area, do not use steroids on, in or around the eyes, as cataracts and glaucoma can result.
  • The more potent the steroid, the more effective it is in clearing psoriasis, but the risk of side effects is greater.
  • Low-strength steroids are good for treating the face, groin and breasts, but care must be taken as the risk of side effects is greater in sensitive skin areas.

Potential side effects of topical steroids include skin damage, such as skin thinning, changes in pigmentation, easy bruising, stretch marks, redness and dilated surface blood vessels. Steroids can be absorbed through the skin and affect internal organs when applied to widespread areas of skin, used over long periods of time, or used with excessive occlusion.

Have more questions about whether a topical treatment is for you? Your health care provider can provide you with more information related to these treatments, and discuss if they are a fit for your treatment plan. Please speak with your health care provider about the use of topical steroid treatments on children affected by psoriasis.

  • Therefore, topical corticosteroids should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
  • Drugs of this class should not be used extensively on pregnant patients, in large amounts, or for prolonged periods of time.

Nystatin Vs Saccharomyces Boulardii

Even though Nystatin is an over-the-counter drug in some countries it might be easier for you to get the probiotic yeast Saccharomyces boulardii.

The study Prophylactic Saccharomyces boulardii versus nystatin for the prevention of fungal colonization and invasive fungal infection in premature infants concluded Saccharomyces boulardiito be as effective as nystatin in reducing fungal colonization and invasive fungal infection, more effective in reducing the incidence of clinical sepsis and number of sepsis attacks and has favorable effect on feeding intolerance.

Feeding intolerance, clinical sepsis, and number of sepsis attacks were significantly lower in the probiotics group than in the nystatin group.

The similar study conducted by the same authors concluded the positive effects of probiotic bacteria L. reuteri.

Proven sepsis, feeding intolerance, and duration of hospitalization were significantly lower in the probiotics group than in the antifungal group.Prophylactic L. reuteri supplementation is as effective as nystatin, and more effective in reducing the incidence of proven sepsis in addition to its favorable effect on feeding intolerance.

Actually, I would guess that many other strains and species of probiotic bacteria would work as well.

Moreover, most probiotics contain the Lactobacillus reuteri in combination with other species of probiotic bacteria.

Psoriasis Cleared Up On Anti

Here I present some testimonials about the antifungal and anti-yeast drugs and supplements like Saccharomyces boulardii.

You can find many more testimonials especially if you search for coconut oil or oregano oil.

I didnt include them in here because one might say that coconut oil has some other effects which might play a role in clearing up psoriasis and oregano oil is also a strong anti-bacterial supplement.

Ive suffered from psoriasis for over 10 years, this is the first thing Ive used that has actually worked, plus I feel a whole lot better too! My psoriasis has nearly completely disappeared. Be careful of the detoxing though, for the first few days I felt really bad and had many muscle aches, pains and some headaches. This was just my body detoxing, all good stuff.

Understand The Differences In Injectable Medications

Is the injection a good move or a bad one? asked one MyPsoriasisTeam member.

There isnt a simple answer to that question. There are various injectable medications used for different types of psoriatic disease. Your doctor may have to run some medical tests before determining which injectable medication is appropriate for you. Injectable medications for psoriasis may include corticosteroids, immunomodulators, or biologics.

A corticosteroid like Kenalog can be delivered into the joint of a person to treat psoriatic arthritis. It can also be locally injected subcutaneously under the skin. Immunomodulators like methotrexate can be injected subcutaneously. Biologics may be prescribed in conjunction with methotrexate or as stand-alone treatment. Humira is one of the most popular biologics, and it is also injected subcutaneously. Other biologics, such as Remicade , are delivered through an IV.
