You might be wondering what this is doing on the list.

Stress is one of the triggers of psoriasis and you know how well yoga handles stress.

I First Started Getting Psoriasis Around The Age Of 26

It was when I worked at a steakhouse as a cook. I was eating a lot of beef and white bread because it was free. Somebody would mess up a steak or burger at least twice a day, and boom, I had a free meal. I ate beef and white bread almost everyday for two years. Not a good choice.

Red spots starts showing up around my eyelashes and above my lip. Then they started flaking and getting gross, then it started in my hair, little crusty bumps. I didnt know what to do, I didnt have health care, so I couldnt go to the doctor. And it wasnt that bad.

During the next summer I played a lot of basketball outside with no shirt on and it went away. Getting a tan apparently makes psoriasis disappear. But I was also thinking, oh it goes away in the summer, who cares.

I went back to college and started drinking black coffee twice a morning and feeling stressed out. I think the black coffee and stress made the psoriasis return. During that winter it got really bad. The red dots became huge and dry, it felt like my skin was made of rocks. I kept putting lotions on it recommended by some of my female friends, all of which contained alcohol and fragrance, which actually made it worse. When I would reach up to grab things, the dots would crack and bleed.

I was really scared to eat differently like actually scared. How could I ever live without disgusting food and Pepsi on a daily basis?

How Is Psoriasis Treated

Psoriasis is usually treated by a dermatologist . A rheumatologist may also help with treatment. Treatments can include:

  • ultraviolet light from the sun or from home or office treatments. But in some children, sunlight can make psoriasis worse.
  • creams, lotions, ointments, and shampoos such as moisturizers, corticosteroids, vitamin D creams, and shampoos made with salicylic acid or coal tar
  • medicines taken by mouth or injected medicines

A doctor might try one therapy and then switch to another, or recommend combining treatments. It’s not always easy to find a therapy that works, and sometimes what works for a time stops helping after a while.

Increase Your Daily Dietary Fiber Intake

One of the major causes of an anal fissure is constipation. When we have to strain to make a bowel movement we are putting excessive force on the anus. This combination of a large stool that has to be forced out of the body can easily cause an anal fissure.

I strongly believe this is how I first got a small cut on my anus. At the time, my doctor said I had Hemorrhoids. The only way to truly know is to get a visual examination. Dont let your doctor take your word for it and diagnose that problem without looking at it.

Anyway, dietary fiber is found in many fruits, vegetables, beans, & whole grains and is most commonly associated with its ability to relieve and prevent constipation. In addition to helping with constipation, fiber has many other health benefits that really make a strong case for making sure you have enough fiber in your daily diet.

Some of the added benefits of fiber are:

  • Adds bulk to your stool which actually aids in the bowel passing smoother.
  • Relief from Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Lowers your risk of getting Hemorrhoids and/or anal fissures
  • Helps control your bodys blood sugar levels which lowers your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes
  • Aids in losing weight

Here is the recommend fiber intake we should strive for daily:

25 grams 21 grams

WARNING: BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE AMOUNT OF FIBER YOU START TAKING. I RECOMMEND GRADUALLY INCREASING YOUR FIBER INTAKE SLOWLY SO YOU DO NOT PRODUCE A STOOL THAT IS TOO HARD.

Vitamins And Psoriatic Disease

Vanilla Extract Could Help Treat Psoriasis, Says Study ...

There is no direct link between vitamins and dietary supplements and psoriatic disease. However, many with psoriatic disease find that including vitamins and supplements in their diet helps their skin clear and may ease joint pain.

Dietary supplements can be extracts or concentrates, and they can occur in many forms, such as tablets, capsules, softgels, gelcaps, liquids or powders.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not regulate dietary supplements for safety or effectiveness. This can also lead to an inconsistency when it comes to active ingredients. Itâs important that you talk to your doctor before adding any vitamins or supplements to your treatment plan, as some may interfere with your medications.

Here are some of the more popular vitamins and supplements used to combat psoriatic disease.

Drink Plenty Of Water

You have heard it before, but it really is something so simple that you can do to really make a difference in your overall health. Water helps to carry nutrients to your bodys cells as well flushing toxins from your bodys vital organs.

The most common approach to knowing how much water to consume every day is what is called The 8×8 Rule.

You want to drink at least 8 ounces of water 8 times per day. I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to drink plenty of water every day, so if you do nothing else on this list, please make sure you at least drink plenty of water.

Aloe Vera To Get Rid Of Psoriasis

The gel inside the aloe vera plant has been used traditionally, for a long time, as a means of treating skin conditions from rashes to burns.

Aloe vera is effective for treating inflammation and applying it on the psoriatic parts can help with the redness and scaling.

America Academy of Dermatology suggests that aloe vera should be used topically rather than ingesting it for the treatment of psoriasis for best results.

The National Psoriasis Foundation also recommends that one should go for creams that contain at least 0.5 percent of aloe.

You can get such aloe vera creams in stores and online.

How to Use Aleo Vera Gel for Psoriasis

  • Mix the tea tree oil and aloe gel
  • Then, apply some of this mixture on the affected area.
  • Massage for a minute or two and leave it on.
  • Rinse after 30-45 minutes
  • Store the remaining tea tree oil-infused aloe gel in an airtight container.
  • Do this 2 times daily.

What Type Of Psoriasis Treatment Will I Need

Several treatment options can relieve psoriasis. Creams or ointments may be enough to improve the rash in small areas of skin. If the rash affects larger areas, or you also have joint pain, you may need other treatments. Joint pain may be a sign that you have arthritis.

Your provider will decide on a treatment plan based on:

  • Severity of the rash.
  • Vitamin A or retinoid creams.

Use A Sitz Bath Daily To Help Relieve Pain And To Clean The Anus

Cure Psoriasis Naturally – How To Make Green Juice To Heal Psoriasis

A Sitz Bath is just a fancy name for a plastic bowl that you set on top of your toilet. You will fill the bowl with warm water and some epsom salt if you prefer. The purpose of a Sitz Bath is to help promote blood flow to the anus which will aid in helping to heal your anal fissure faster, as well as keeping the area clean and free from infection.

Sitz Baths are also commonly used to treat and relieve pain associated with Hemorrhoids. You should try and do at least 2-3 Sitz Baths daily.

To use your Sitz Bath you will fill the bowl and the drip pouch with water the is very warm, but too hot that it will burn your skin. After filling up the bowl measure in about a 1/4 cup of epsom salt and stir it in until it dissolves.

You will then just sit on the Sitz Bath bowl just as if you were going to sit to take a bowel movement. I would try and stay sitting for at least 10-15 minutes to get the most benefit from the bath. Once done you want to make sure that you towel dry your rear end well as you do not want any moisture back there afterwards.

Again, I have to stress the importance of doing your Sitz Baths multiple times each and every day while your body is healing.

Letting Sunshine Heal Your Skin

Number 2 is sunshine. I know of many cases of psoriasis where simply getting out into the sun and building a tan has really helped.

The UV rays that hit the skin actually set off an internal process of stimulating cholesterol to be converted to vitamin D. Vitamin D is a hormone in the body that does all kinds of amazing things, including balancing your hormones which helps the body communicate and do all that it needs to do.

When it comes to sunshine, start out slow. Maybe sun bathing 10 minutes at a time, then slowly build up as you develop a tan. Since I have a tan, I normally lay out for about 30-45 minutes in direct sunlight between 10 oclock to 2 oclock. If youre in a place that is not so sunny I recommend using UV lights that are designed to mimic the sun.

Yes, Im talking about using a sunbed or solarium . I know theres a lot of bad press about them but the fact is they dont cause cancer. Its not eating enough fruits and vegetables that causes cancer and theres plenty of research to prove this. According to many studies Vitamin D is the number one factor to reduce your risk of skin cancer. So if youre in a low natural light environment, I would consider using a solarium for say half the recommended time just to get that UV hit and develop some vitamin D for the health of the skin.

The best thing to do before UV exposure is the process of guasha to really clean your skin, which leads me to my next point.

The Immune System And Psoriasis

It takes most people with healthy skin about a month for their bodies to produce new skin cells and shed old ones. But when you have psoriasis, your bodys skin cells go through an accelerated cycle.

Thats because people with psoriasis have an overactive immune system, which causes excess inflammation. This inflammation forces your body to produce new skin cells at a much faster rateabout a 4- to 5-day cycle. Thats roughly seven times faster than normal. Skin cells rapidly pile up and get pushed to the surface, as your body is unable to shed them quickly enough.

Those skin cells become the scales and plaques you see on your skinwhich can be silvery, red, itchy, flaky, raised, or inflamed. Thats how inflammation deep down in your body can contribute to symptoms all the way up to your skins surface.

DEFINED: Inflammation is the bodys natural defense system. In normal amounts, it helps your body heal. But too much and your body starts to attack healthy cells.

Is Psoriasis The Same As Eczema

Psoriasis and eczema are two different skin conditions. They differ in where the disease appears on the body, how much it itches and how it looks. Eczema tends to appear more often behind the knees and inside the elbows. Eczema also causes more intense itching than psoriasis. Many people, especially children, can get both eczema and psoriasis.

What Are The Types Of Psoriasis

Psoriasis: Symptoms, Causes, Types, and Treatments

In children, common types of psoriasis include:

Plaque psoriasis. This is the most common type of psoriasis. It causes plaques and silvery scales, usually on the knees, elbows, lower back, and scalp. They can be itchy and painful and may crack and bleed.

Guttate psoriasis. This type often shows up after an illness, especially strep throat. It causes small red spots, usually on the trunk, arms, and legs. Spots also can appear on the face, scalp, and ears.

Inverse psoriasis. This causes smooth, raw-looking patches of red skin that feel sore. The patches develop in places where skin touches skin, such as the armpits, buttocks, upper eyelids, groin and genitals, or under a woman’s breasts.

Are There Complications Of Psoriasis

In some people, psoriasis causes more than itchiness and red skin. It can lead to swollen joints and arthritis. If you have psoriasis, you may be at higher risk of:

  • Use medicated shampoo for scales on your scalp.

Other steps you should take to stay as healthy as possible:

  • Talk to your healthcare provider about lowering your risk for related conditions, such as heart disease, depression and diabetes.
  • Lower your stress with meditation, exercise or seeing a mental health professional.

How Is Psoriasis Diagnosed And Treated

Psoriasis often has a typical appearance that a primary care doctor can recognize, but it can be confused with other skin diseases , so a dermatologist is often the best doctor to diagnose it. The treatment of psoriasis usually depends on how much skin is affected, how bad the disease is , or the location . Treatments range from creams and ointments applied to the affected areas to ultraviolet light therapy to drugs . Many people who have psoriasis also have serious health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and depression. Some people with psoriasis also have an inflammatory condition which affects their joints, called psoriatic arthritis.

Psoriatic arthritis has many of the same symptoms as other types of arthritis, so a rheumatologist is often the best doctor to diagnose it. The treatment of psoriatic arthritis usually involves the use of drugs .

Psoriatic disease may be treated with drugs or a combination of drugs and creams or ointments.

Coping And Treating Skin Pain

Even when you cant avoid flares, you can find ways to cope and treat skin pain. Here are some self-care tips to help you manage pain.

Keep skin lubricated: Keeping your skin lubricated can prevent dry, itching painful skin. It can also reduce redness and heal skin. The National Psoriasis Foundation recommends heavy creams that lock in water. Make sure you are using moisturizers that are fragrance-and alcohol-free, as fragrances and alcohol may dry out skin.

Refrigerate creams: Keep creams and moisturizers in your refrigerator. This helps keep them cold so they can soothe burning and itching.

Soften scales: You can soften scales with lotions containing lactic, salicylic, or glycolic acids. These substances can break up dead skin cells that have built up on psoriasis plaques. Generously apply to skin at night and cover up with a plastic wrap overnight. This way the lotion stays and absorbs into skin better.

Try capsaicin: Check your drugstore for creams, lotions, and ointments containing capsaicin. Capsaicin is the ingredient in chili peppers that makes them hot. Products containing capsaicin block the nerve endings that cause pain. These products may also help reduce inflammation, redness, and scaling. However, there isnt enough research to confirm these benefits in the long-term or on the safety of capsaicin.

Pros And Cons Of A Gluten

With a dramatic increase in the diagnosis of celiac disease and gluten intolerance in recent years, mainstream grocery stores, restaurant chains and bakeries are introducing more and more gluten-free products.

Following a gluten-free diet requires you to become educated on all the hidden sources of gluten, as well as educating loved ones. To avoid all gluten, you must read labels carefully . You need to avoid not only wheat but its derivatives: durum, graham, kamut, semolina and spelt. The same goes with barley derivatives: malt flavoring and malt vinegar, as well as rye, MSG and soy sauce. Remember, just because a food is labeled wheat-free doesnât mean itâs gluten-free.

Some manufacturers add sugar, saturated fats and preservatives to their gluten-free offerings to make them taste better, but they also add calories. Just because a diet is gluten-free it does not mean itâs calorie-free. You still need to apply the principles of a balanced diet.

On the other hand, says Jerry Bagel, M.D., director of the Psoriasis Treatment Center of Central New Jersey in East Windsor and a member of the National Psoriasis Foundation medical board, if someoneâs skin improves as a result of a gluten-free diet, itâs likely the patientâs digestive system is improving as well, and absorbing more nutrients.
