Is There A Permanent Cure For Psoriasis

More Than Skin Troubles

Are there any permanent & economical treatments for Psoriasis? – Dr. Aruna Prasad

A 2017 study from the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that people with psoriasis that covers 10% of their body or more are 64% more likely than those without psoriasis to develop type 2 diabetes. “About 30% of people with psoriasis also might develop psoriatic arthritis, which causes destructive inflammation in your joints,” says dermatologist Dr. Gideon Smith. Psoriasis also may signal a higher risk for fatty liver disease and heart attacks.

How Is Psoriasis Diagnosed

Doctors usually diagnose psoriasis by examining the skin, scalp, and nails. Theyll also ask whether someone else in the family has psoriasis and if the child recently had an illness or started taking a new medicine.

Rarely, doctors might take a skin sample to check more closely. A biopsy can tell the doctor whether its psoriasis or another condition with similar symptoms.

Psoriasis patches can range from a few spots of dandruff-like scaling to major eruptions that cover large areas. Mild cases of psoriasis may be a nuisance. But more severe cases can be painful, disfiguring and disabling. Most types of psoriasis go through cycles, flaring for a few weeks or months, then subsiding for a time or even going into complete remission. In most cases, however, the disease eventually returns.

Tips For Staying Active While Living With Psoriasis

    Permanent cure of psoriasis

Maintaining an active lifestyle is essential to managing my psoriasis, but its not always easy. At the time of my diagnosis, I was 15 years old and involved in a busy schedule of extracurricular activities. I played varsity lacrosse, took jazz and tap-dancing classes, and danced on my high school kickline team. And I didnt want to quit any of it.

It was a challenge to learn how to coexist with my psoriasis while keeping up all the activities I loved. With determination and lots of support from my parents, I pursued my passions through graduation and beyond. I played lacrosse in my freshman and sophomore years of college, and I was a founding member of my schools kickline team. That meant two hours of intense cardio, three days a week, for all four years.

Tired yet? My packed schedule definitely kept me on my toes. I also think it played a big part in helping me keep my psoriasis under control. Many sources, including the National Psoriasis Foundation, note that exercise helps fight inflammation in the body, which is said to worsen psoriasis. In my experience, exercise makes me feel good and diminishes my stress levels. It gives me a way to clear my mind from all the craziness that life throws our way.

Now, with two toddlers at home, I find it even more challenging to squeeze exercise into my day. Often, I get in my cardio by playing and dancing with my girls. But no matter what, I dont give up on exercise.

Is There A Permanent Treatment For Psoriasis

Answered by: Dr Rishi Parashar | Consultant, Department of Dermatology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi

Q: I am 25 years old. I am suffering from planar psoriasis for the past six months. Three months back I went to India and consulted a dermatologist. He told me it is due to tension and then he suggested Steroids . I used these for two months and found some relief in some part of the foot. I am now back in UAE, but there is no relief. Then last month I had some allergy and I consulted a dermatologist here in UAE. She told it is due to food and prescribed XYZAL tablets and for the foot problem she told me to stop the steroids currently and suggested me the Urecare. But still I am suffering and I get a lot of itching. What is the permanent treatment for this? A lot of people have been telling me that there is no complete treatment for this and they are suffering for last 20 years. Is this true?

Diet And Psoriasis: What’s The Connection

Can your diet help keep psoriasis under control? Maybe. An observational study published online July 25, 2018, by JAMA Dermatology found that people with psoriasis who followed a Mediterranean diet an eating pattern rich in fruits and vegetables, legumes, whole grains, fish, fruit, nuts, and extra-virgin olive oil experienced fewer severe flare-ups. This was only an association and more research is needed, but experts believe the Mediterranean diet contains many foods that have an anti-inflammatory effect in the body and may offer extra protection against psoriasis triggers.
